1998 saw the establishment of the nucleus flock. High health status is a priority at Pound Farm, therefore maedi visna accredited stock were purchased from Jim Dufosee of Wiltshire in addition to a scrapie genotytpe Ram.
The nucleus flock was genotyped as are all progeny under the National Scrapie Plan and the majority are either R1 or R3.
The millennium year proved extremely successful at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, winning the Male Breed Championship, Best Group of Three in addition to second prizes in both Breeding Ewe and Ewe Lamb classes.
2002 also saw success at the Royal Welsh; once again winning the Male Breed Championship.
The Flock now totals some 120 breeding ewes (a total of around 300 is planned) with lambing taking place mainly in September due to the Dorset's natural ability to lamb "out of season".
Prime lamb is supplied direct to Waitrose Supermarket from January onwards in addition to our "Farm Shop " customers who return time after time to purchase the "out of season new season lamb".
In addition to producing quality prime lamb for the domestic market we are also able to provide breeding rams (mainly Genotype ARR/ARR (R1) to suit both the Pedigree Breeder and Commercial farmer.
